Gonojagoron Moncho will hold a rally in Dhaka on Friday to protest the persecution, murder and eviction of the Rohingya community.
The group’s spokesperson Imran H Sarkar announced the demonstration in a press release on Thursday.
The demonstration, dubbed Dhaka Rally, will begin at 3pm from the capital’s Shahbag intersection and pass through important parts of the city.
The #DhakaRally hashtag is already trending among Bangladeshi social media users on Facebook and Twitter.
The press release said: “Thousands of people from the Rohingya community are becoming victims of genocide and torture in Myanmar, which has stunned the international community.”
“Rohingya refugees are pouring in from the border regions, escaping the violence with only their lives. Bangladesh must take a strong stance to help the persecuted Rohingya community, and support them in getting recognition as citizens by Myanmar,” it said.
Gonojagoron Moncho aims to build strong public opinion to force the Myanmar government into stopping the reported genocide and persecution of the Rohingya.
“The people must rise above their differences and join the rally to show solidarity to the Rohingya community. The world must know that Bangladesh stands with the Rohingya,” Imran said in the press release.
