Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon has stressed the need for constituting city government system to make Dhaka a livable city by mitigating the challenges.
“Lack of coordination between the government's service provider agencies is the biggest problem to make a livable city,” the mayor said in an international conference at Hotel Sonargoan on Wednesday.
He said: “Under the city government system, all the agencies will work in an integrated way. City mayor will head the city government.”
He said currently Wasa manages water logging problems while BRTA oversees transport related issues and the police department handles traffic jam.
Sayeed Khokon said city problems would be solved if all the agencies work under a single umbrella.
He said the Awami League government wanted to constitute 20 years ago but the then opposition party opposed the idea.
