A woman was killed and four others injuried, as a boundary wall of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka’s Shahbagh area collapsed on Wednesday evening.
The university hospital’s director, Brig Gen Abdullah-al-Harun, identified the deceased as Parvin Begum, 50, resident of Mohakhali.
A portion of the boundary wall of the university’ C-Block, across the parking area, suddenly collapsed around 5pm, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Ramna division) Maruf Hassan Sorder confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune over phone.
According to the Ramna DC, two pedestrians, one police officer, one Ansar member, and one nurse were injured in the incident. The identities of the injured are yet to be confirmed.
Brig Gen Abdullah-al-Harun also said that none of the injured were in danger.
Jahid, nephew of Parvin, told the Dhaka Tribune: “My aunt was returning home after visiting my maternal uncle at Birdem. At that time, the wall collapse on some people including her, leaving her injured critically.”
“Later she died while being treated at BSMMU. We will not to file any case over the incident and want to take her body home without postmortem,” he added.
