Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon said stern actions will be taken against people who will violate the holiness of Ramadan.
He made the statement on Monday after a views-exchange meeting with the owners of hotels, clubs and bars at DSCC auditorium. Fruit traders, imams of the city mosques and social activists were also present at the meeting.
"Those who will be involved in violating the sanctity of Ramadan will have to undergo a punishment and if any influential or well-known person of the society is found in any unpleasant situation during the drive, the City Corporation will not take the responsibility of that person," said Khokon.
He also said a special drive will be conducted in the city corporation area during Ramadan to check food adulteration in restaurants.
