Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokhon came up with the announcement on Monday at a discussion titled “Jonotar Mukhomukhi Jonoprotinidhi” organised by DSCC at the city’s Jatrabari intersection.
At the programme, the mayor asked local representatives of Jatrabari, Sayedabad and surrounding areas to inform him about the crisis and problems the residents are facing regarding water, gas, power supply, poor roads and other public infrastructures in the areas.
The representatives on behalf o the local people of Jatrabari urged Sayeed Khokon to take initiatives to recover the illegally occupied Jatrabari park and footpaths. They also urged the mayor to set up a primary school, a community centre and a kitchen market, and demanded proper waste management and control of drug abuse in the area.
In reply to the queries, Khokon said: “We are planning a development project for the Jatrabari park and it will be launched within this June.
“A primary school will also be set up after we manage a land for it.”
Sayeed Khokon also assured residents of Jatrabari and Sayedabad that all streets in areas under ward 48 will have LED lights by June.
High officials of the city corporation, representatives and officials of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, Titas Gas, Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited and Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police attended the event.
