The DSCC has also slapped a ban on random parking in some areas, Khokon told a media briefing in Dhaka on Wednesday. He made the announcement after a meeting with the senior officials of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Rajuk, Dhaka district deputy commissioner and Dhaka Transport Co-ordination Authority at his office. “Random parking on the streets at Gulistan, Motijheel, Sadarghat and Azimpur will not be allowed,” he said. “We have fixed some dedicated parking spaces in adjacent areas.” “All vehicles have to use these dedicated spots. Traffic police will oversee the overall vehicle parking management.” Asked what measures would be taken to curb illegal parking in Motijheel and New Market, he said the DSCC would launch on-street parking system. “This will allow vehicle parking at designated spots in exchange of a fixed fair,” the mayor added.
