The 210 LCS workers will be divided into 42 groups and relentlessly work on a regular basis on the roads
The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Gopalganj is renovating 239 kilometers of roads to celebrate the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Md. Abdus Salam, supervising engineer, Faridpur range LGED, inaugurated the program as chief guest by renovating 30 meters of the Gopalganj-Silna road in Gopalganj Sadar upazila on Thursday.
Prior to this event, the chief guest gifted umbrellas, aprons, masks and other tools used for renovating the roads to 210 working women under the “Labour Contracting Society” or “LCS” program.
He said: “We made a promise ahead of Mujib Year that we will repair every road in this locality so that the locals don’t have to travel on the worn out roads anymore.”
“The 210 LCS workers will be divided into 42 groups and relentlessly work on a regular basis on the roads so that the process remains intact,” said Ehsanul Haque, deputy engineer of LGED.
“Not only that, each worker will receive Tk310 per day which will be delivered at the end of the project so that they can invest their earnings into something big.
“The workers will also receive training and assistance from us so that they can run their own businesses,” added the LGED official.
Rojina Akhter, one LCS worker, said: “I can contribute to my family through this project. My family and I are living a happier life than in the past.”
Abdul Mannan Sheikh, a resident of the area, said: “Over 20,000 people of this locality will be benefitted by the project. We will have a well shaped transport facility and we thank LGED for that.”
Over 25 kilometers of road was renovated in the last four days, said Mannan.
