The height of buildings will be strictly categorized for each area, so that people cannot easily design a high-rise building, according to the draft DAP

Different organizations, stakeholders and individuals may submit their opinions, suggestions or concerns over the draft Detailed Area Plan (DAP) until January 4, 2021.

Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister and convener of the DAP cabinet committee Tajul Islam said: “We have extended the time allotted on the website for two more months, as many stakeholders filed appeals due to Covid-19.”

The minister gave the statement while addressing reporters after a meeting of the newly formed DAP cabinet committee at the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.

Rajhadhi Unnayan Katripakka (Rajuk) finalized the draft DAP on September 2 and shared it on their website for public opinion and recommendations. The original deadline for submissions was November 4.

According to the draft DAP, the height of buildings will be strictly categorized for each area, so that people cannot easily design high-rise buildings. Many developers have pressured the government to cancel the provision.

LGRD Minister Tajul Islam said no one will be allowed to construct buildings illegally and in an unplanned way.

He said new buildings will be constructed in Dhaka in a manner to ensure that the capital is a livable city, with all civic amenities and planned infrastructure that keeps geological and ecological issues in mind.

“A sub-committee will be formed by incorporating city corporations and other institutions,” he added.

The minister said the committee will work to build a livable and scenic city, keeping in view other important issues including residential and commercial use, presence of hospital, schools and colleges, sports grounds, utility service, communication system, and shopping malls according to a proper plan.

Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin, Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, and senior secretaries, secretaries of various ministries and other officials  concerned were present at the meeting.

The government on October 25 reconstituted the cabinet committee to detail, review, and finalize the DAP prepared by Rajuk.
