This is the sixth span of the bridge at Zajira point
One of the spans of Padma Bridge will be transported from Mawa, Munshiganj to Shariatpur’s Zajira upazila point by crane.
The 6F span set out towards the Zajira point, on the Tiyan E crane, around 8:30am on Tuesday.
This is the sixth span of Padma Bridge at Zajira point, and the seventh span of the Padma Bridge overall, engineers of the Padma Bridge project informed the Dhaka Tribune.
Humayun Kabir, assistant engineer of the project said: “The span is near pillar 16 after heading out towards Zajira point, on the Tiyan E crane, in the morning. After reaching the Zajira point, the grey-coloured span will be installed on pillars No 36 and 37.”
The assistant engineer also said: “Our aim is to finish the task of installing the span within the next three days. The installment of the span will only start when it is near the pillar. We will install the span, continuously, till pillar No 33 of Zajira point.”
On condition of anonymity another engineer said: “The span was taken to the Zajira point after the river was dredged. It was delayed a bit because of the dredging. If everything goes right, then the span will be installed on Wednesday.”
Of the 42 pillars of the Padma Bridge, 41 spans (each of 150m length) will be installed. After the sixth span is installed at Zajira point, 900m of the Padma Bridge will be visible.
Till now, five spans have been installed on pillars No: 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, and 42.
Additionally, the super-structure 1F span is to be permanently installed on pillars No 6 and 7 of Mawa point and are currently kept at pillars No 4 and 5 of the same point.
