Public Works Department and Bangladesh Police will jointly construct the headquarters of RAB in Dhaka by June 2021 in a bid to ensure basic infrastructural facilities for its members, he said.
According to the Planning Commission, currently there is no permanent infrastructure for RAB to use as headquarters while the rented temporary offices are not adequate to accommodate the unit’s members and their logistics.
Launched in 2003 as an elite and striking force, functions of RAB have expanded over the years, with some 1,486 officials and employees in different tiers working at the temporary RAB headquarters in Uttara. Currently, there are 14 companies (battalion units) in eight divisions and a training school under the command of this force.
The main project operations include construction of a 13-storey office building, a 12-storey residential building for bachelor staff, a 10-storey barrack, an eight-storey motor and transport shed-cum-deputy director's mess, two 10-storey residential buildings, and a 10-storey mess.
Ecnec also approved a project for constructing 288 residential flats in six buildings for government employees at Tk290.50 crore.
Public Works Department under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works will implement the project by June 2020 at Shialbari in Mirpur.
So far some 20 projects, including the latest one, have been undertaken to meet the housing needs of public servants in Dhaka, Kamal said.
