A target has been set to build a total of 2,971 houses under the scheme
The government will construct 8,000 flats across the country for freedom fighters, said Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque on Tuesday.
“The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has undertaken a project for constructing 8,000 flats, each with 982 square feet area, across the country for freedom fighters who are financially struggling,” he said in reply to a question from treasury bench member and lawmaker Selina Begum in parliament.
The minister said if the project got approved, at least one five-storey building would be built in every district or upazila in the country for the freedom fighters to provide them with housing facility.
He said the present government had undertaken a scheme titled “The construction of houses for landless and insolvent freedom fighters” for improving the living standard of the landless and poor freedom fighters.
“The project would be implemented at a cost of Tk271.12 crore, for constructing each flat with 500 square feet area with latrine and water supply facility,” he added.
Mozammel informed the House that the housing project is being implemented in every upazila and a target has been set to build a total of 2,971 houses under the scheme.
