State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said power connections using electric poles will not be provided any longer in the country.
“There will be no piles of hanging wires. From now on, the electricity cables will go underground. The project to do so will start from Keraniganj,” he said.
The junior minister was addressing a party programme as chief guest at Keraniganj's Jinzira, on the outskirts of Dhaka city, on Friday.
“There has been a development spree going on across the country, which the people are benefiting from. These (ongoing development activities) have been made possible since the Awami League-led government is in power,” Nasrul Hamid said.
Awami League leader Haji Mohammad Selim and Keraniganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahin Ahmed, among others, addressed the programme.
