Jica to invest in second Metro Rail

A high-level delegation from Japan International Cooperative Agency (Jica) is set to arrive in Dhaka on January 8, 2017 to sign a deal to finance the construction of the second Metro Rail of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line-1.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Thursday at the Secretariat: “Jica has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to invest in the MRT line-1 for which the agency will come to Bangladesh to finalise the contract next year.”

According the draft of Revised Strategic Transport Plan (RSTP), the proposed MRT line-1 will be 37km long, connecting Dhaka Airport to Kamalapur with further expansion plans to extend it from the Airport to Gazipur and Kamalapur to Keraniganj's Jhilmil residential area.

JICA has been working on completing a feasibility study of the Metro line-1 route.
