The plan stipulates that the officials will be eligible for the flat in their fourth year of service with facilities of soft loan and installments.
The Governance Innovation Unit of the Prime Minister's Office has already drafted a guideline in this regard. The Ministry of Public Works and Housing has accepted recommendations from multiple ministries.
Industries in the private sector will benefit from the scheme, especially the developers. The government will negotiate contracts with developer companies for the construction of the flats on public land throughout the country, as per the guideline.
SM Arif-Ur-Rahman, additional secretary (Development), ministry of Public Works and Housing told the Dhaka Tribune: “The detail project plan (DPP) of flats for entry-level government officials has already been sent to the Planning Commission for approval.”
“The project will help reduce the residence crisis faced by government officials,” he added.
There are 13 lakh government officials in Bangladesh and only 8% of them currently residential facilities.
