Schoolgirl gang-raped in Sylhet, two held

Locals captured the reported rapists and handed them over to the police

A fifth grader schoolgirl has been gang-raped in Beanibazar of Sylhet district.

Locals captured the two alleged rapists and later handed them over to the police. The survivor’s father filed a case with the Beanibazar police station on Wednesday.

The arrestees are Faisal Ahmed alias Petla, 30, and Mishuk Ahmed, 26.

According to local sources, the 11-year-old girl was forcibly picked up by two men and taken to a secluded place when she went out to fetch water from a tubewell around 9pm on Tuesday.

The perpetrators reportedly gang-raped her and left her and fled the scene. The girl’s family searched and rescued her from the spot in an unconscious state. When informed about the incident, enraged locals captured the reported rapists. Later, the police arrested them and brought them to the police station.

Officer-in-Charge of Beanibazar police station Hillol Roy said: "We have arrested the two accused rapists and produced them before a court which sent them to jail."

The schoolgirl has been admitted to One Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for medical examination, according to police sources.
