Fake national identity card and birth certificate seized
The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested two persons, including a Rohingya woman, on charges of trying to acquire Bangladeshi passports through forged documents in Narayanganj’s Fatullah area.
The arrested persons are Md Sumon, 32, and Nur Taj, 18.
RAB seized a fake national identity card, a fake birth certificate, a passport application form and a mobile phone from them as well.
Additional Superintendent of Police Md Jasim Uddin Chowdhury of RAB 11 said RAB, acting on a tip-off, arrested them on Tuesday night from the vicinity of the Narayanganj Regional Passport Office.
The RAB official continued: “She told us that she was an orphan and lived at a Teknaf Rohingya camp with her foster mother Amena.
“However, after reviewing the evidence seized from Nur Taj and conducting a preliminary investigation, we came to know that her father, Sadiq, is currently living in Australia.
“She has been living in a rented house in Dhaka’s Mugda area with her mother, Sharmin, and two brothers, Anwar Hossain and Paresh Sadiq, for the last four years.”
Meanwhile, Sumon, a travel agency staffer, used to help people get fake birth certificates, national identity cards and passports in exchange for large sums of money, the additional superintendent of police mentioned.
Legal action was being taken against the two arrested persons, he added.
