Police arrested one accused while the female ward councillor is on the run
A case has been filed against two people, including a female councillor of Gazipur City Corporation, for allegedly forcing a 16-year-old beauty parlor worker into prostitution by keeping her trapped at home in Gazipur.
The accused are Roksana Ahmed Rosie, a ward councillor of Gazipur City Corporation's (Ward-16, 17, and 18), and Nurul Haque, caretaker of her house.
The victim filed a case against them for forcibly violating the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act and forcing her to provide services and prostitution.
The case was filed with Basan police station under Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP). Police have arrested the accused caretaker of the house in the case. Basan police station OC Mohammad Kamrul Faruq confirmed the matter.
Detainee Nurul Haque, 65, hails from Kawraid area of Sreepur upazila of Gazipur and is the caretaker of Mofazzal Hossain's house in Great Wall City residential area of Naljani of Gazipur City Corporation.
OC Faruq said: “The girl, 16, who recently converted to Islam, took a job at Ananda Beauty Parlor at Rahman Shopping Mall in Chandna Chowrasta area, owned by Rosie.”
Her [survivor] home is in Barayakona area of Kalmakanda upazila of Netrokona district. In addition to her job at the parlor, she was forced to work as a housemaid at Rosie's rented house in the Great Wall City area.
Councillor Rosie forced the girl to do prostitution with the help of Nurul Haque from December 15 to February 13, said police. On Tuesday, the victim managed to escape from the house and informed the police.
Besides, two to three more unidentified people have been accused in the case, while Rosie is still on the run since the incident. Police said the investigation is underway. Legal action will be taken against the accused.
