Investigators granted five days to quiz the third suspect in custody
A Dhaka court has remanded another accused in a case lodged over the alleged rape and subsequent murder of a private university student.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder passed the order, placing the victim’s friend Farjana Zaman Neha on five days remand.
Earlier, police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place her on a seven-day remand. Police arrested Neha from a house in the capital’s Azimpur area on Thursday night.
The court on January 31, placed the victim’s friends and accused Mortuja Raihan Chowdhury and Nuhat Alam Tafsir on five days remands as the father of the victim filed the case with the capital’s Mohammadpur police station against four people including Neha, Mortuja and Tasfir earlier on that day.
According to the case documents, Mortuja on January 28 took the victim to Bamboo Shoot Restaurant in Uttara Sector-3, where Neha and their other friends were already present and they mixed excessive alcohol in her drink.
At one stage, the victim fell sick and Mortuja took her to their friend’s Tasfir’s house. There Mortuja raped her. Next day, they took her to Ibn Sina Hospital and later Anwer Khan Modern Hospital, where she died two days later.
