Police have arrested one person for allegedly raping an RMG worker inside Bakshiganj Union Parishad office in Jamalpur.
The accused, identified as Nazmul Hasan Babu, 25, is an entrepreneur from Nilakshiya Union Parishad in the same district.
He is the organizer of the Nilakshiya Union Parishad information and service centre, police said.
According to Bakshiganj police, the rape survivor, 20 years old, is from Balugaon village in Nilakshiya, but used to live with her grandfather in Shajimara.
She was living in the village since she lost her job due to Covid-19 outbreak.
Recently, she applied for a new job at a garment factory, where she needed to submit her birth certificate. The accused allegedly advised her to go to the union parishad on January 14.
When she got to the office on that day, the accused allegedly raped her inside, with the help of another person.
The survivor filed a complaint against two people with Bakshiganj police station on Monday night.
Speaking with Dhaka Tribune, Bakshiganj police station OC Shafiqul Islam Shamrat said: “The survivor has filed the complaint of rape against two offenders under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.”
Based on the complaint, police arrested Babu later on Monday night from the market area of Nilakshiya Union Parishad.
They are still looking for the second accused, whose identity has not been disclosed yet.
