The couple has been running a yaba trade after renting houses in different parts of the country including Chittagong, said the Rab official
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a Rohingya couple and recovered Tk 1.17 crore and 5,300 yaba tablets after conducting a drive at a house in Chittagong city.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune on Monday morning, Rab-7 Assistant Director (Media) Mahmudul Hasan Mamun said that the Rab-7 members conducted the drive at a house under B Block of Chandgaon Residential Area on Sunday noon.
The arrestees were identified as Shokat Islam, 32, and his wife Morzina, 28.
“During primary interrogation, the couple confessed that they hail from Myanmar and have intruded into Bangladesh territory. The couple has been running a yaba trade after renting houses in different parts of the country including Chittagong,” said the Rab official.
Saying that the couple made the recovered sum from selling contraband pills, RAB also said that the duo started throwing the money out of their house window when they sensed the presence of the elite force.
Two cases, one for intruding into Bangladesh territory and the other for keeping yaba tablets in their possession, have been filed with the city’s Chandgaon police station.
