2 teenagers drugged, raped in Chandpur

Two madrasa students were allegedly raped after being drugged in Chandpur. 

One of the students is in sixth grade and the other in seventh grade in a madrasa.

The incident took place at Barkandaj's house in Ward 4 of Dakshin Madna village in Chandra Union on Sunday night.

The girls are currently undergoing treatment at the 250-bed Government General Hospital in Chandpur.

Doctors said, signs of rape were found on their bodies during preliminary tests on Tuesday. 

There were three girls in the house that night, all of them were drugged but preliminary testing showed one of the girls - who is the accused Milon’s cousin - was spared from being raped.

Khadija Begum, the mother of the victims, said: “I left my two daughters at home along with another girl and went to Dhaka as my sister was ill. That is when Milon Mir, son of our neighbour Bachchu Mir, came home, and fed chanachur and Coca-Cola to the three girls. 

“Later, when they fell asleep, he entered the house by cutting the window’s grills.”

Milon had cut the power line in the house as well.

She continued: “Later, my sister-in-law called me and told me that my house had been burglarized. I asked them to see if my kids are safe. After knocking and calling them for a long time, my daughter opened the door but fainted soon after. The other two girls were also unconscious.

“When asked later, they could not remember anything but one of them had a sharp pain in her chest. Then they were brought to Chandpur Government General Hospital.”

“Milon has left the area since the incident,” she said.

The mother demands an exemplary trial of this incident.

Milon's cousin, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital, said: “Milon brought muri-chanachur and Coca-Cola to the house and we all ate it together. Then when he left, we closed the door and fell asleep. I don’t know what happened after that.”

Superintendent of Chandpur police along with other police officers visited the spot after receiving the news.

Chandpur Model police station OC Nasim Uddin said: “We are looking into the matter, but no complaints have been filed yet.”

A preliminary examination showed signs of rape in two of the three girls, said Dr Naushaba Rumu, a senior gynecologist at the 250-bed Government General Hospital in Chandpur. 

She said initial tests at the gynecology ward showed some signs of rape in two girls. No such symptoms were found in another. 

“We sent their vaginal swabs to the laboratory, only the report can confirm the matter," she said.

Chandra Union Parishad Chairman Khan Jahan Ali Kalu Patwari said: “After learning about the matter, we went to the spot along with the police. As far as I know, these are incidents of rape. However, it can only be confirmed after medical tests.”
