A four months pregnant housewife has been beaten to death in Sadallapur upazila of Gaibandha.
The deceased Chabi Rani Pal, 28, is the wife of Vaidyanath Pal from Rasulpur union of the upazila and daughter of Dr Buddhiswar Pal from Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj.
Buddhiswar Pal filed a case against Vaidyanath Pal and four others on Saturday night. Vaidyanath and his family members have been on the run since the incident.
According to the case details, Vaidyanath Pal, son of Rampad Pal, was married to Chabi for about 10 years. Since then, Chabi’s husband and his family members have been torturing her mentally and physically.
On early Saturday, the husband, his parents, brother and sister beat Chabi to death over a trivial matter. Later, they hanged the body from the ceiling to show it as a suicide.
Locals said the husband and his family played loud songs throughout the night while they beat up Chabi.
Sadallapur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masud Rana said on information, police recovered the body on Saturday afternoon and sent it to Gaibandha General Hospital morgue for autopsy on Sunday morning.
Police are continuing their operation to arrest the culprits, he added.
