Police have arrested a man in a case filed for raping a 16-year-old girl in Dhaka.
The suspect has been identified as Jony, 25.
The incident took place in the capital’s Mirpur area on Saturday night.
Mirpur police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Rahiz Uddin confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.
He said: “On Saturday, the victim, along with one of her friends, went to the local market to have some food.”
“On their way back home, Jony lured her away to a makeshift hut located behind a local school and raped her. Another young man was standing outside guarding the gate.”
“The victim went home on Sunday and informed her elder sister about the incident,” he added.
“On Monday, the girl lodged a complaint with our police station. The suspect Johnny was arrested later that night during a drive. A case has been filed in this regard,” said the police official.

Contacted, the victim's older sister said: “Our parents are dead. I am married and live somewhere else. We are two sisters and one brother.
“Both my younger brother and my sister [the victim] are to some extent mentally handicapped. My sister has been raped and I want justice.”
