RAB also recovered the body of the three-and-a-half year-old Mahim on Tuesday
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a man along with his associate on the charge of abducting and killing his child over a family dispute in Matuail, Dhaka.
The arrestees are the child’s father Julhas alias Farooq alias Gudda, 31, and his associate Jewel Bepari, 20.
RAB-10 Director Additional Deputy Inspector General Qayumuzzaman confirmed the matter at a press briefing on Wednesday.
The law enforcement agency also recovered the body of the three-and-a-half year Mahim on Tuesday.
Qayumuzzaman said the child’s father Julhas needed Tk4 lakh to go abroad as a migrant worker and demanded the money as dowry from his in-laws.
Julhas earlier tortured his wife several times to get the money. He then devised a plan to abduct his own child to get the money, the RAB official said.
Qayumuzzaman said when the boy went missing on Saturday afternoon, his father Julhas lodged a general diary (GD) with Jatrabari police station and complained at the RAB office.
On receiving the complaint, RAB found during its investigation that a local youth named Jewel had abducted, sedated and then killed the minor boy.
RAB arrested Jewel, who later confessed that he had killed the boy on instructions from the child’s father Julhas.
Later, the buried body was recovered from Green Model Town in Matuail on Tuesday night and Julhas was also arrested. Both men confessed to the crime, the RAB official said.
According to their plan, Jewel bought eight sleeping pills and gave them to Julhas on June 26. At approximately 12:30pm Jewel lured the victim Mahim from in front of his home and took him to the Matuail bus stand, the location earlier arranged by the victim's father, Qayumuzzaman said.
Then, Julhas and Jewel took the boy from Matuail bus stand to a secluded area in Demra’s Deilla and gave the boy some juice mixed with the eight sleeping pills, he added.
After making sure the boy was dead, they took the body to Green Model Town in Matuail’s Mridhabari. There they buried it in garbage and went home, he said.
Qayumuzzaman said Julhas himself had filed the GD with Jatrabari police station on June 29 to keep himself above suspicion.
To prove that the child had been abducted, a text message was sent from Jewel’s phone to Julhas’s asking for ransom. On the same day, Julhas contacted RAB-10 with the GD copy.
