Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazal Hossain recorded Mojnu's statement on Thursday
The lone accused, Md Mojnu, has confessed to his crime before a Dhaka court in a case filed for raping a Dhaka University student.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazal Hossain on Thursday recorded Mojnu's statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Sub-Inspector Afsana Mimi, also the general recording officer of the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
After recording his statement, the court sent Mojnu to jail, she added.
Earlier in the day, Detective Branch (DB) of Police Inspector Abu Siddik, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court after expiry of a seven-day remand that Mojnu was placed on January 9 by another Dhaka court.
On January 5, the DU student was attacked and raped by the side of Airport Road in Kurmitola area.
The rape incident spread shockwave and triggered demonstration of students and humanitarian organizations across the country.
On January 8, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) apprehended Mojnu in the capital's Shewra rail crossing area in connection with the incident.
He was later handed over to the DB police who is investigating the rape case filed by the victim's father with the Cantonment police station on January 6.
