The killers planned the murder seven months back, police say
Police have arrested five youths and recovered Tk2.42 lakh in connection with the murder of a businessman who was murdered on December 25.
The suspects were arrested from Narayanganj and Comilla districts, Abdul Baten, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed at a press conference in Dhaka, on Saturday.
Victim, Shah Md Tobarok Hossain, 72, originally from Karimganj of Kishoreganj was the owner of a multi-story market in Mohakhali, police said.
The arrested are: Imon Hossain 20, Sohel Pradhan 29, Babul Pradhan 28, Al Amin Khondkar Rihan 21, and Golam Rabbi 24.
According to police , the miscreants planned the killing seven months back, aiming to loot valuables from the businessman, they stabbed Tobarok in his flat on the day of the crime.
Shahin, a former employee of Tobarak who was fired for stealing money, might have devised the plan. He is now on the run, Baten said.
According to the plan, the killers bought a knife, scotch tape and rope from Chawkbazar and a crowbar from Mohakhali area, a day before the murder.
“When the security guard went to perform Fajr prayer, the miscreants entered the victim’s bedroom and with the assistance of house help Saiful, tied Tobarok and stabbed him to death in his flat at Shanti Niketan area on Wednesday,” he said.
Later, they broke the almirah with the crowbar, took cash, valuables and left Dhaka.
