Detective Branch (DB) of Police has said two security guards had murdered Chinese businessman Gao Jianhui to loot his money.
DB Additional Commissioner Abdul Baten briefed the media regarding the matter on Wednesday.
The body of 50-year-old Jianhui was found buried in the garden of his Banani apartment complex on December 11. On the same day, police detained two security guards-- Rouf and Enamul—for quizzing regarding the matter.
This Tuesday, the two guards were shown arrest in the case filed over the murder of the Chinese national.
In the briefing, Abdul Baten said: “The guards were frustrated because of poverty and wanted to become rich overnight.
“They planned the murder, assuming that Jianhui had a lot of money as he was a foreigner.”
He added: “They tried to kill him once before, but failed.”
After the murder, the duo stole Tk3 lakh. Of which, Tk1.21 lakh was recovered by DB police. Police also recovered a broken mobile and items used in the murder, including a towel, a bucket and a wooden stick-- used to dig up the garden to bury the body.
Jianhui was a stone importer, who had been living with his family in Banani apartment for the last one year, but his family members had gone to China in November.
