Police have detained six men for allegedly gang-raping two ready-made garment (RMG) workers in the Bandar upazila of Narayanganj.

Following the incident, the victims filed a case with the Bandar police station, the same night accusing the six men and four to five unidentified others.
The detainees are- Raihan, 23, Shahin, 22, Nizam, 22, Sujon, 20, Nazimuddin, 25 and Shahin, 24.
According to victims and sources of the police, the female apparel workers went to the Sabdi area to meet their friends. As they were returning home on a battery-operated three-wheeler around 9:30pm, a group of young men intercepted their vehicle and beat them unconscious. Later they took them to the Icetala beel area and raped them repeatedly.
At one stage, locals informed the police after hearing the victims’ cries. Later policemen from the nearby Madanganj police outpost rushed to spot and rescued the women.
Initially police detained three suspects from the spot and carried out drives in the area to detain three others.
Confirming the matter, Inspector Tariqul Alam Jewel, in-charge of the Madanganj police outpost, said: “The detainees have been sent to court. In the initial interrogation, they confessed to raping the women. The victims were sent to hospital for medical examination.”
According to court sources, five of the detainees have given confessional statements before Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magisrate Md Kausar Alam’s court under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
