Police have arrested two people from Gorai area of Mirzapur upazila for gouging out a teenager’s eye.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Mamun, 23, and Al Amin, 20, on Tuesday afternoon. The pair were allegedly involved in digging out 16-year-old Milon Hossain’s right eye with a screwdriver on April 12, confirmed Mirzapur police station Officer-in-Charge AKM Mizanul Haq.

The two arrestees were sent to jail after police produced them before a court on Wednesday afternoon, the OC said.

“Efforts are underway to arrest another accused in connection with the incident,” he added.

Milon’s father, Md Giyas Uddin Ahmed, said: “Milon worked as an electrician at a local cable TV service provider. Sometimes, he worked with Mamun, whose uncle owns the cable business.

“On April 12, when Milon went to install a cable connection at a three-storey building next to Mirzapur Cadet College, his colleagues took him to the rooftop, where Mamun, assisted by Al Amin, stabbed Milon in the eye with a screwdriver.”

Milon was rushed to a local hospital and later moved to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for better treatment, Giyas Uddin added.

Doctors at the hospital said Milon’s right eye is completely damaged and he might lose his vision in the other eye as well.
