Police arrested a mosque imam in connection to a case filed for raping an eight-year-old boy in Nabinagar upazila, Brahmanbaria.
Police arrested Shihab Uddin, 25, from Aturkora village of Nasirnagar upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
Later, a Brahmanbaria court sent him to jail when police produced Shihab before the court.
According to police, Shihab was an imam of a local mosque of Barail purbapara village in Nabinagar. He also taught Arabic to children at a maktab.
When the boy went to a maktab for Arabic lesson on April 26, Shihab took the boy to his room and raped him.
The boy's mother filed a case with Nabinagar police station after they came to know about the incident.
Nabinagar police station OC Ranjit Roy said: "Shihab escaped after he raped the boy. Acting on a tip-off, we arrested him from Nasirnagar upazila.
"Shihab accepted the allegations against him after a primary interrogation and also confessed to his crimes at the Brahmanbaria court," he added.
