A man suspected of being involved in the March 18 attack on election officials in Rangamati’s Baghaichhari has been reportedly shot dead on Wednesday.

The deceased, Gyan Shankar Chakma, was shot dead in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Naikhangchari upazila, Bandarban.

RAB 7 Deputy Commander Shafayat Jamil Fahim told the Dhaka Tribune: “Acting on a tipoff, we laid a trap for a group of terrorists, who were planning to cross the border with ammunition supplies and use them to spread terror all over Chittagong.

“They detected our team and opened fire. Our forces shot back, and killed Gyan Shankar, while the others fled. He is a known fugitive, and we believe he may be involved with the attack that killed seven people and severely injured 19.”
