A female tourist was reportedly raped by a jeep driver at Parjatan Motel Megla in Bandarban town on Monday night.
The victim was rescued by police in the early hours of Tuesday, Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Enamul Haque Bhuiyan confirmed the Dhaka Tribune.
But the accused, identified as Rasel, is yet to be arrested.
Police, however, have impounded his jeep and detained the motel’s security guard Osman Gani who reportedly helped Rasel in raping the young woman.
According to locals and police, the woman from Dhaka had travelled different tourist spots in the district during the day with her friend.
On Tuesday evening, the woman was waiting for her friend, who had entered a nearby restaurant to buy some food, at the town’s bus station when Rasel tricked her and took her to the motel.
There, he took the victim in Room No 205 and raped her.
Later, police rescued the girl from the motel around 2:30am Tuesday after her friend notified them.
OC Enamul said they were conducting raids to catch Rasel.
The woman, who later filed a case accusing Rasel with Sadar police, was also sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for medical tests and treatment.
