A listed musician of Bangladesh Betar has been arrested for raping an eight-year-old girl in the city's Agargaon Taltola area.
Abdur Razzak, 50, was arrested by police on Saturday.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Barik of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station said: “Razzak, who lives on the third floor of a six-storey building, lured the girl to his apartment with a packet of snacks in the morning.
“The girl, a grade II student, lives near the building with her parents.”
The victim's father runs a food cart.
“Locals gathered in front of the building after hearing her scream. A police team rushed to the spot, rescued the girl, and arrested Razzak,” SI Barik added.
A case has been filed regarding the matter.
Police said the victim has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
