The victim was found dead on Monday with her body hanging from a fan
A pregnant woman has been killed, allegedly by her in-laws for not accepting illicit offer from her father-in-law, in Satkhira.
The victim, Akhi Bose’s mother demanded justice for her daughter, at a press briefing at the Satkhira Press Club on Wednesday.
Akhi was found dead on Monday in her room, while her body was hanging from the ceiling fan.
Akhi’s mother Jochona Basu demanded that her daughter’s father-in-law SK Bose; mother-in-law Ashoka Bose and husband Arup Kumar Bose be brought to justice.
Akhi’s father school teacher Gobindo Chandra read a written statement at the time, which said: “Akhi got married to Arup in 2017. Even after giving money and gold jewellery as dowry, Arup used to torture my daughter. His father even gave her illicit proposals. My daughter was killed because she rejected the offer.”
The statement also read: “After killing Akhi, they were planning to escape with their passports and belongings which the locals stopped.”
The trio was later arrested by the police and a murder case was filed against them by Akhi’s father.
Mentioning from the police report, Gobindo said: “They (the in-laws) wanted to portray her murder as a suicide. Though her body was hanging from the fan but her feet were still in the ground. Poisonous water with foul smell was coming out from her mouth and there were no signs of ropes along her neck. Akhi’s tongue was also in the normal position.”
Akhi’s father also said his daughter’s autopsy was done on Wednesday.
The family members wanted exemplary punishment of the culprits.
