Police suspect the victim has been strangled to death
Police have recovered the body Eden Mohila College’s former principal Mahfuza Chowdhury Parveen from her house in Dhaka’s Elephant Road area.
The body was recovered from her flat in the area’s Sukanya Tower on Sunday night, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Ramna) Md Maruf Hossain Sardar.
He said there were three domestic helps at her home. "Two of them are now missing. The injury marks on her [Mahfuza] body indicates that the principal was strangled to death.”
Ismat Quadir Gama, the victim's husband, was not at home at the time of the murder.
He said one of the domestic helps had opened the door when he knocked after returning home, and told him that the other domestic helps were nowhere to be found.
After entering their bedroom, Ismat said, he found his wife lying dead on the bed.
He added that the cupboards were ravaged and the other two domestic helps, Joba Reshma, 30, and Swapna, 35, were missing.
They had been working at their house for the last one and a half months, he said.
