Police comes under attack, arrest six drug gang members in Jamalpur

Police have arrested six members of a drug gang, during an attempt to free one of their members from police custody in Jamalpur.

This incident took place on Wednesday in the Beparipara area of the Islampur upazila.

The arrested were identified as: Gutu Bepari, 60, Bagu Bepari, 45, Rukan, 30, Murjuil Begum, 40, and Dulna Baich, 30.

According to police sources, a team of Islampur police in a drive had arrested Saiful Islam, 45, one of the members of a drug gang, from the Beparipara area.

Later, other members from the same gang, in an attempt to breakout Saiful, launched an assault on the police.

Additional Superintendent of Police said: "Upon receiving information, the police went to the site and arrested six people, including two women.”

During the assault, Sub Inspector Aminul Islam was severely injured and was immediately sent to the Upazila Health Complex to receive medical attention.

Islampur police station OC Aslam Hossain said that assault charges will be pressed against the culprits.
