On May 3, Advocate Shaktiman Chakma, 55, a leader of Parbatya Chittagong Jana Sanghati Samity (MN Larma faction), was gunned down in front of the Upazila Parishad Complex

A team of joint forces arrested the key accused in the murder case of Naniarchar Upazila Chairman, Shaktiman Chakma, from Kutukchhari Uttar Para in the district town on Saturday.

The arrested has been identified as:  Konentu Chakma, 24, president of Hill Students Council, supported by the UPDF (Prosit) group.

Kotwali Police Station Assistant Sub-inspector Md Anwar said: “Being tipped off that several members of UPDF set up a meeting for distribution of extortion money, a team of joint forces conducted a drive in the area and detained Konentu Chakma with a foreign-made pistol and Tk4 lakh.”

The team also recovered four mobile phone sets and a UPDF money receipt book. However, other associates managed to flee the scene, he added.

On May 3, Advocate Shaktiman Chakma, 55, a leader of Parbatya Chittagong Jana Sanghati Samity (MN Larma faction), was shot dead in front of the Upazila Parishad Complex.
