The youth was accused of raping a madrasa student in Jhalakathi
Police in Jhalakathi have recovered the dead body of a youth who was a suspect in a rape case.
The body, recovered on Saturday, had a printed note tied around his neck that said: "I am Sajal. I am the rapist of [victim's name]. This is my punishment."
The note was wrapped in plastic.
“Sajal Jomaddar, 28, was found in a rice field in Boltala village around 2pm,” said Kathalia Police Office-in-Charge Enamul Haque.
“There is a wound next to his ear. We suspect he was shot dead. The man’s uncle has identified him and the body has been sent to the morgue,” he said.
Sajal was accused raping a madrasa student while she was heading from one village to another in Pirojpur’s Bhandaria upazila on the morning of January 12.
The victim’s father filed a case against Sajal and two others with the Bhandaria police station.
Bhandaria police SI Tariqul said: “The suspects went into hiding after the case was filed.”
Jhalakathi Superintendent of Police Md Zobayedur Rahman went to the crime scene after the body was found.
This is an almost identical incident as the one in Savar where a gang-rape suspect was killed and left with a note.
On January 18, the dead body of one Ripon, was found in Amin Model Town in Savar. When police arrived to take custody of the body, they found a note saying: "I am the prime accused in a rape case" around his neck. Ripon was the mastermind in a case filed over gang-raping a 14-year-old RMG worker who died on January 8.
