The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police have arrested three suspected members of the banned militant outfit, JMB, at Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka.

A special action group of the CTTC arrested suspects Abdul Hakim, Noman, and Shafi around 8am on Wednesday.

Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Deputy Commissioner of DMP Media and Public Relations Masudur Rahman, said the suspects were planning assassinations ahead of the 11th parliamentary election and terror attacks in Cox’s Bazar during celebrations on December 31st.

The CTTC team also confiscated: 30 commando knives, one dagger, one machete, one improvised explosive device container, and 1.5kg of explosives.

During initial interrogation, Abdul Hakim admitted that he is the JMB Cox’s Bazar regional chief. He used to make a living selling Islamic literature before joining the militant organization in 2013.

Noman confessed that he is JMB’s Chittagong military chief, while Shafi admitted to being an active member of the terror group. All three men hailed from Cox’s Bazar.
