DMP's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit has arrested four suspected members of banned militant group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

They were arrested at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque area under Paltan police station, in Dhaka, on Tuesday night.

The alleged JMB activists were identified as: Mohammad Abdul Malek,44; Mohammad Nazrul Islam Ridoy, 31; Abdur Rob alias Rabi, 27; and Abdul Hannan, 22.

One pistol, five bullets, multiple magazines, two mobile phones and four folding knives were recovered from the spot.

After getting a tip-off on Tuesday about 10-12 possible JMB activists meeting near gate no1 of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, a team of CTTC conducted a raid around 7:30pm and arrested four supposed JMB members.

CTTC Deputy Commissioner Mohibul Islam Khan confirmed the incident to Dhaka Tribune.

The CTTC deputy commissioner said: “They all are old JMB's active members. During primary interrogation they confessed that they were planning to go to Myanmar for war. Thus they were trying to collect arms and ammunition. We were able to arrest four as the other suspected JMB members fled the scene. However, through initial interrogation we were able collect the names of those who fled.”

“They want to establish Khilafat rule and Shari'ah law in the country. They were planning to conspire against the government and the state. They all are active members of JMB,” he added.

Addressing this incident, a case has been filed with the capital’s Paltan model police station under the anti-terrorism act.
