The Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder has also been accused in another case at Ashulia police station
Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury has been made accused in a case of treason for his remarks on the army chief made in a television talk-show at Somoy TV on October 9.
A general diary was filed on Thursday against Zafrullah for making remarks on the army chief, reports BSS.
“The GD was converted into a case of treason on Sunday following approval of the Home Ministry and was transferred to Detective Branch (DB) of police the same day,” said Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md Abdul Baten.
“Assistant Superintendent of Police Fazlur Rahman of DB was appointed today as investigation officer of the case,” he also said.
Major M Raqibul Alam of the Legal Affairs Wing of the army headquarters filed the GD against Zafrullah Chowdhury with Cantonment Police Station earlier on Thursday, said Assistant Commissioner (AC) Taposh Kumar Das of Cantonment zone.
The GD mentioned that on the night of October 9, a day prior to delivery of verdict in the August, 21 grenade attack case, Zafrullah reportedly made irrelevant remarks about the army chief which were targeted, politically-motivated and plotted to arouse conflict among the armed forces and tantamount to treason.
The army headquarters sent a protest letter to the Somoy TV which was later broadcast by the channel.
Meanwhile, another case was filed against Zafrullah Chowdhury at Ashulia police station on Monday.
In the case details, one Mohammad Ali of Manikganj accused Zafrullah and several others of threatening him and his business partner with death, attempting to forcibly occupy a piece of land they own at Ashulia, extortion and vandalism.
