2 UPDF activists shot dead in Rangamati

Two United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) activists have been shot dead in Rangamati's Naniarchar upazila.

The shootings took place in the early hours of Friday at Sumonti Chakma’s house in the Bethchori area of Ramshimoti Pahar

According to locals, the deceased Akorshon Chakma, 42, and Shamol Kanti Shumonto, 35, were staying over for the night at Sumonti’s house. Upon receiving the news, the opposition surrounded the house at 3am and killed them after waking them up from sleep. Soon after, the killers fled the scene.

UPDF Rangamati Organizer Shachal Chakma said: “The reformers killed our men with direct help from the administration. Two of the reformers took part in the killings and I demand their immediate arrest.”

Naniarchar police station OC Abdul Latif said: “We have got the news and police are already on their way to collect the bodies from the scene.”
