RAB has conducted 2,580 anti-drug drives all over the country between May 4 and August 21
A total of 40,000 yaba pills worth around Tk1.4 crore hidden inside jars of face cream have been found by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a courier package sent via the Sundarban Courier Service from the Lohagara upazila in Chittagong.
The pills were found by RAB 10 during a drive at theoffice of the courier service in the Dilkusha area of Motijheel in Dhakabetween 11am and 3pm yesterday.
RAB 10 Additional SP Mohiuddin Faruki confirmed that the agency was tipped off about the matter, and was waiting at the office of the courier service when it arrived. When four people – Nayeem, Rubel, Forqan, and Arif – came to collect the package, they were detained.
Initial interrogations have yielded some names connected to the shipment, but Mohiuddin refused to disclose any of them for the sake of the investigation.
RAB has conducted 2,580 anti-drug drives all over the country between May 4 and August 21,arresting 4,422 people. They also conducted 1,074 mobile courts, which arrested a further 8,187 people.
During these drives, contraband items such as narcotics and illegal alcohol worth around TK187,70,00,000 was seized.
