RAB says the man was a private tutor of the child
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a man on charges of abducting a child in Dhaka. The elite force members later rescued the victim.
The arrestee, Moinul Islam, is a madrasa teacher of Noakhali’s Sonapur.
He was arrested from the airport railway station on Saturday afternoon, said RAB 3 Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rabiul Islam who led the operation.
Moinul was a lodging private tutor of Muhammad Samir some three to four months ago. He developed a good relation with the child’s family.
Samir's father Kawsar Ahmad is a microbus driver.
On August 23, Moinul came to Dhaka with the plan to abduct Samir, RAB official Rabiul said.
He went to a nearby field in Madhubagh where Samir was playing and confined the child to a house.
Moinul left a letter at the microbus of Samir’s father’s Kawsar, demanding Tk50,000 as ransom and gave two contact numbers.
Later he called Kawsar and asked him to hand over the money, the RAB official added.
Meanwhile, Kawsar informed RAB of the matter.
RAB started tracking the number and arrested Moinul. They also rescued Samir, Rabiul said, adding that the reason behind the abduction is yet to be confirmed.
Moinul was handed over to Hatirjheel police station, RAB sources said.
