Chittagong woman confesses to killing ex-husband

A medical student has confessed to police that she chopped off her former husband's head and dumped it in a dustbin at a motel room in Khulshi, Chittagong.

Police recovered a throat-slit body of victim Md Mainuddin, alias Shahriar Shuvo, 29, son of Sirajul Islam of Balirchar village in Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni district on Friday.

Police later arrested the accused Rokhsana Akhtar Popy, daughter of Abu Ahmed of Mirsarai upazila, from Alfalah area of Khulshi. She is also and a student of a Chinese medical college.

According to Rokhsana’s confession, Mainuddin had developed a love affair with her six years ago, and they eventually got married after three years of their relationship. But, they got divorced after two years later due to a family feud. She later went to China to study medicine.

Police quoting Rokhsana said after their divorce, Mainuddin posted some photos of their intimate moments on Facebook by through a fake ID and shared the photos, tagging her.

Enraged Rokhsana returned to Bangladesh on Wednesday with a plan to kill Mainuddin.

The next day, she along with Mainuddin rented a room at the motel in Foy's Lake.

Later at night, Rokhsana chopped off Mainuddin's head with a knife and dumped it wrapped in a plastic bag into a dustbin of the motel room and fled, the police official said.

The CMP additional commissioner said: “Police also seized a mobile phone, a black moneybag, a wristwatch and some other materials used by Mainuddin as evidence.”
