Police’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit have arrested four alleged members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman said the arrests were made during a raid in Abdullahpur area around 8:45pm on Sunday.
He identified the four as Mohibul Islam, 22, Md Mozammel Haque alias Billal, 34, Shamim Ahmed, 27, and Md Delwar Hossain, 37, and added that all of them were active JMB members.
During the raid, police also seized two machetes, 96 detonators, 10 batteries and other bomb making materials from them, said Masudur.
CTTC sources also said that these four active JMB members were involved in promoting their ideology. They also gathered the bomb making materials in order to carry out subversive activities as part of their anti-state conspiracy.
A case was filed against the arrestees at Uttara west police station under the antiterrorism act.
The four JMB members were also scheduled to be produced before a Dhaka court on Monday, with police seeking 10 days to interrogate them.
