RAB confiscates 6 Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan buses in Dhaka

On July 29, a Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on the Airport Road

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 1 and 4 have confiscated six Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan buses, for plying the streets of Dhaka even after cancellation of road permit by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), confirmed RAB confirmed by SMS on Saturday.

Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of the college section of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed as a Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on the Airport Road on July 29.

On July 30, the High Court directed the owners of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan to provide Tk5 lakh each to the families of the two students.

Later, an accident case was filed with Cantonment police station, and Masum Billah - the driver was arrested from Barguna town on July 31, while the owner - M Shahadat Hossain - of the said transport service was arrested on August 1.

The deaths sparked a nationwide students’ movement for road safety. The demonstrations, initially peaceful, were later marred by violence and false rumours.
