Law enforcers say the arrestees are online activists

Law enforcers have arrested three more people for allegedly inciting violence by spreading rumours on social media over the student movement.

The Cyber Crime Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested the trio—Touhidul Islam Tushar, Md Waliullah, and Md Ihsan Uddin—in a case under the ICT Act filed with Ramna police station during a drive on Tuesday night.

The team also seized mobile phones, laptops, and memory chips from their possessions.

Police sought a 7-day remand to interrogate them.

The arrestees are online activists, Najmul Ahsan, additional deputy commissioner of Cyber Crime Division, said.

They were trying to create unrest by sharing provocative posts and contents on Facebook, he said, adding that the department would continue drives against those spreading rumours.

Earlier, the law enforcers arrested three people in a similar case. A Dhaka court granted police five days to interrogate each of them.
