Teacher throws acid at 9th grader in Habiganj

A teacher of Habiganj Technical School and College has attacked a student with acid on Saturday morning in the school premises, located at the Poddarbari area of the Habiganj city.

The victim Mohiuddin, 16, suffered burns in several parts his body and was admitted to Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital. He is a 9th grade student of the school.

The accused teacher Abdul Quaiyum was later arrested by the police.

After the news spread students protested and demanded the punishment of the accused teacher by blocking the Habiganj Shaistaganj road and chanted slogans against him.

At one point, students vandalized the main gate and windows of the school building, but police,on arrival at the scene, brought the situation under control.

The victim Mohiuddin said he went to Quaiyum’s chemistry class in the morning to learn, making soap. The teacher became angry at Mohiuddin for touching his table and threw acid at him.

Resident Medical Officer of the hospital Dr Debashish Roy said: “An acid like chemical was thrown at him and parts of his body suffered burn injuries. He is currently under treatment.”

Habiganj Sadar police station Officer-In-Charge Md Yasinul Haque said: “We were able to get the angry students under control. We have also arrested the accused and he is being interrogated at the moment.”
