DB seizes fake notes worth Tk32 lakh

The Detective Branch (DB) of police seized counterfeit currency worth Tk32 lakh from a shop near Kallyanpur bus stand in Dhaka on Thursday.

Additional Commissioner (Media) Obaidur Rahman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

The detectives also arrested four people during the raid: Jashim Morol, 30, Abdul Jalil, 28, Sagar alias Ripon Das, 30, and Jalal Uddin, 28.

Police sources said an illegal drug recovery and rescue team of the DB conducted a raid at Kallyanpur bus stand area around 10:30pm on Thursday following a tip-off.

During the drive, the detectives found the fake notes and arrested the four people from a tea stall in front of the bus stand.

Police said the arrestees confessed during primary interrogation that they had been making counterfeit currencies of different countries, including Bangladesh, for nearly six years. 

Cases have been filed against the four at Mirpur Model police station, sources said.
